PCIAM - Private Client Investment Advice and Management
The Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment’s PCIAM forms one paper of the CISI Diploma and can also be taken as a stand alone qualification – the Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice and Management. The exam ensures candidates have a broad understanding of the principles of investment in financial assets, can identify clients' needs and provide solutions to those needs.
Why take PCIAM?
The PCIAM provides candidates with in depth theoretical and practical knowledge of private client advice and management. The paper forms part of the CISI Diploma which is recognised by the Financial Services Skills Council (FSSC) as an Appropriate Examination for many Financial Services Authority (FSA) 'designated activities'.
PCIAM and the RDR
The Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management has been approved by Ofqual as a standalone Level 6 qualification. It can be taken to meet the step-change requirements to Ofqual QCF benchmark Level 4 as proposed in the Financial Services Authority’s RDR Consultation Paper. The Certificate covers the four core areas required by the FSA which are: regulation and ethics, investment principles and risk, taxation, and planning.
“There is no prerequisite to have passed any exams before attempting the PCIAM Certificate, although it is advisable that you are working in the private client industry and already passed the relevant regulatory exams for that role. IMPORTANT: for those who wish to use the qualification as a transitional exam on the route to RDR compliancy, you MUST already have a regulated status with the FSA. This regulated status will have generally been achieved by passing relevant benchmark qualifications.”
